Week 2, Swim Lessons

Day 5 - V had a much better day today than last Friday. He's now able to get in a couple of kicks to get himself up to the bar. He isn't exactly jumping into pool at the beginning of classes but at least he seems to get over the stress pretty quickly. Here's a sample of what he did in the second half of classes...

On another note, his favorite word right now is "airplane!!". It's pretty cute. He says it all the time. "Fishie" comes in at a close second. And then "up". He's funny, because when I get out of the car and go get him, he'll say, "Mama, mama" and I say "What is it, baby", and he'll say "Mama, up-ah" It's pretty cute. He's been on full milk for the past month or so. We are going to gradually work him away from the bottle and had a breakthrough today when he finally drank more than two ounces out of a sippy cup - yipeee! Of course, it was high flootin' milk - from the Starbuck's drive thru ; )

Day 6 - Well, V seems to have the concept of swimming to the bar down so she started working on his floating today. Fi mentioned that since he seems to be so full of energy, she decided to go ahead and run him through all of the steps now so that he could start working through them. So, she had him float for a while and then flipped him over and had him float again. He kept arching his back through the float, but he was at least able to get the main gist of it. Poor little guy let out a huge vurp after swimming. We treated him to pho noodles and beef stew afterwards - you should see the little man eating noodles!!

Day 7 - Oh dear. Funny, how Grammie asked if Vincent was ahead of the curve this morning...we found out this afternoon that he is officially Fi's hardest student to train - boo hooooo. Apparently, Mr. Strongman is really fighting the calm, tranquil float. She said he's doing everything - from clenching onto her with his legs to flipping himself to arching backwards to avoid floating. And, I guess he's doing it with enough ferocity that she is now convinced that she needs to work out in order to keep up with him. In some ways, it is nice to hear confirmation that we have a little Tazmanian devil and in other ways we really want him to reach his own little zen place. During bath time tonight, I had him lay in the bath with three inches of bath water - he fought it unti I sang the itsy bitsy spider (Grammie's fav). He was actually giggling and calmly laying there at the end - hallelujah. We will see what tomorrow brings us. It'll be the last lesson of the week due to the holiday so our fingers are crossed ; )

Day 8 - Well, he worked on floating during the whole time. That's about all we can say. The poor little guy took turns arching his back or grabbing Fi's hands or anything other than relaxing. Hopefully, we have a breakthrough soon.

On a different note, this little man is now officially a crazy, wild man. He gets these spurts of energy every once in a while where he attacks anyone within reach. He bit me and Shu during different parts of the day. I guess it is time to set boundaries. Sigh...when do the terrible two come into play??!!!
