Ike's Coming Our Way

So, it looks like Vincent will get to experience his first hurricane. We are going to try to head out to Austin so that he doens't get a close up. Right now, our area is considered voluntary evacuation, but there's something about getting to expereince 100 mph winds that makes us think a nice Hill Country vacation sounds better. We've boarded up the house and are heading out with friends.

UPDATE:
We left on Thursday at 4 PM and were able to make it to Austin in 5 hours. My Dad called it a pilgrimage and it kinda felt like it becuase we had to take two cars - one with Shu and Haley and Patrick and then the other with Andy, Vincent, and myself. We are staying with Shu's cousin, Fred and Sarah, although they had to go out of town, so we are throwing parties at their house as we speak (just kidding : ) ). No - really it was awesome of them to let us stay here and take over their house...don't really know how we can repay them...

We watched the news for the majority of the night and it looks like our house got a good bit of rain and wind and I have a feeling we're part of the 4 million without power... We went to Kirby Lane for breakfast yesterday. Then, we took the dogs to the park and had them run while Vincent got to see TREES!! We finished the day off with some tasty South American food - chicharrones ; ) Meanwhile, Vincent continues to work on his crawling skills and inches like a little worm when we put him down. He also decided to flip over in his pack and play last night and sleep on his tummy. Oh, and he woke up at 3:30 AM becuase of a dirty diaper!! I think it is time for the overnight diapers!!

Anyway, as we wake up today we are watching the news closely. If you look at the map, our house would be equidistant from Clute/Freeport and Galveston further inland. Crazy stuff. We also have some good friends who decided to stay, but she's due on Wednesday, so we can wait to hear an update from them!! Also, I work in Freeport and Surfside is like 5 miles from my office, so it'll be interesting and scary to see what Dow looks like right now.

My cell phone is out in the car busy charging, but I think Shu's is still charged.

Latest Update: We have a neighbor who stayed behind and he said we got a lot of wind and not too much rain. No power. Part of his fence fell down. So, now we'll just hope that we can get power back soon ; )
